Now I get a lot of kickback from this one from people saying, they don't want to spam their friends and their family, they don't want to just constantly be posting a business on their personal page.
Very respectable, I would never sit here as your as your marketing mentor and advise that you spam people or be sleazy or salesy especially to your friends and family that said one of my favorite quotes.
Favorite sayings in all of marketing is that people can't buy from you if they don't know you exist and probably your most prime prospects or prime people in your network are your friends and family.
Those people that know you and those people that can refer you and essentially introduce you to other people, so essentially make sure that you're posting on your facebook personal profile, make sure that people understand what you do, who you help, how you serve them.
Make sure to obviously not be non-stop promotional share some of your personal side, share some of your kind of behind-the-scenes things, but also don't be afraid to.
To let people know about what you do the ratio, that I'm going to suggest here if you're not familiar with doing this is probably 80/20.
So I want you to do about 80 personal stuff 20 business stuff on your personal page, I want you to keep that 80/20 in mind because, we're gonna flip it for this next point which is your "Facebook Business Page".
Here I want you to be 80 business and 20 personal now there's some benefits of using the personal page namely to do with the organic reach of the facebook algorithm.
There's no surprise here, that years ago facebook came in and just took a hacksaw to all of the organic reach that was taking place with facebook business pages.
This is actually what makes the facebook personal page that much more important and that much more effective organic reach is still there to sort of spread the word now, that doesn't mean you can ignore your facebook business page.
In fact if you have a business having a facebook business page is mandatory, this is a non-negotiable thing you're going to need it for different types of messengers which we're going to talk about in just a minute.
You also need it if you want to run ads, which we're going to talk about in just a minute as well, the point of the matter is you need to have a facebook business page.
Make sure that you're regularly creating content on it, now if you're looking for again a rough ratio and you've never done any kind of posting on facebook before.
Let's start off with one post on your personal page every two to three days and let's start out with one post on your business page once a day, once every two days.
At the least people are often worried about spamming people's news feeds with just way too much content the algorithm is smarter, than that not to mention the people that you want to see your stuff.
They're not going to see everything again due to the algorithm, so you can put out a fair amount of stuff, the good stuff's going to get promoted.
The stuff that's kind of people don't really care, about they're going to hold back, so don't be afraid to put more stuff out there all right.
Tool number three that facebook gives you is "Facebook Stories".
Anyone that is familiar with instagram is already, well familiar with instagram stories, a phenomenal way to share behind the scenes.
Short, little clips about your day, little tidbits, little facts, same thing happens with facebook, no secret here, facebook owns instagram.
So much of the same strategies and things that apply over on instagram are going to work equally well on facebook, keep in mind there is a slight difference in age and demographic as well as tone and style and the way that things sort of come across on facebook.
So you want to make sure that you're adapting it for the network that we're talking about, but regardless facebook stories they're a great tool to use and they're also incredibly easy.
Especially if you know the importance of video marketing in your business, you know that you need to be using more video in your business.
But you're afraid to sort of go out there and maybe do a post like this, which we're going to talk about in just a minute as well, but also maybe even recording things you think the bar or the standard for the quality of which the recording of the video you need to put out there.
Just has to be sky high hollywood level productions is absolutely not the case, all you really need to do is make sure that you're turning on your camera you're recording content.
So yeah make sure that you're putting out content stories great way to start really low barrier all, you've got to do is just use your phone and you're going to be just fine all right.
Let's talk about one of the biggest opportunities for 2021 facebook live, whether we're talking about facebook live or instagram live or youtube live there is an incredible amount of power.
But getting on and doing lives just like this there's also some huge benefits the first of which is that all of your fears about having to be perfect and having to put together.
The perfect video or the perfect script or anything like that you can throw those out the window, the beauty of the live is that it's raw, it's real, it's authentic, it's engaging.
I might cough, I might drink some water, my kids might scream outside, when they run their bikes into each other or someone might stop by the office or anything like.
That you just never know what's gonna happen and that's okay your audience knows that and that's part of what makes it real, who knows.
I've got a couple lights on one of them might burn out, it just doesn't matter, what matters is showing up proving that you're a real human being and that you're authentic and you're relatable.
Because people don't "like doing business with businesses, they like doing business with people", this is very important point
So yes, you've got to prove that you are authentic that you are real, this makes you more relatable and it helps people to feel more comfortable in approaching you, in your in your business.
This is a mistake, that I made years and years ago I put myself, I built too much of a moat around my business and around myself.
It made myself too unapproachable everything had to be perfect everything, always had to look amazing and what ended up happening is the strategies that I was talking about.
Started to feel unobtainable to most people, they're like well i'm not a full-time marketer, I don't live and breathe and eat this stuff I'm not going to be able to do it and that's completely false.
The reality is is 10 years ago I didn't even know what marketing was, brand new to it, it was my friend that recommended hey you should probably do some marketing and I was like that's a interesting idea.
I don't even know what that is, I started diving in, I learned everything and taught myself and took some courses and basically progressed to where we are.
So the point is you've just got to start where you are and hit that live all right, doing lives isn't it weird or discouraging, when you don't see people streaming or watching you.
Yeah that's a really good question and the answer is it is if you let it however, what's important to know about doing a facebook live or a youtube live or an instagram live.
Is that the vast majority of the value and of the benefit of doing the live, is going to take place later on, so this is amazing that you guys are here, we can engage with each other, we can talk, you can ask questions.
I can show that I'm a real human all of these amazing things, but what's cool is that when this is done, when we pack things up.
when I go get a coffee all of that this video is going to live on which means that more people are going to be able to come back and to watch the video to get value from it and so on.
And this is one of the reasons you want to be strategic about doing your lives about doing all content because, even if nobody shows up well it's just like recording for a prospective client or an audience member.
Who's gonna watch it later nobody, says that they need to be here right now, watching it, so they can always catch it later and that helps to eliminate some of the fears.
All right moving right along "Facebook Messenger"
Now here's the cool thing about Facebook Messenger, in recent studies there have been depending on which statistic you look at somewhere around 50/60 percent of customers are preferring to engage with businesses via chat rather than email, rather than a phone call.
Which is like pretty much everybody's least favorite way to engage with businesses right now, so you've got to be incorporating facebook messenger.
Again if we're talking about instagram, instagram dims into your business as a way to engage with your audience, now you can do facebook messages through a couple different ways.
Number one of which is your personal profile, this is the importance of point number one, I wonder if I can drag this one around there, we are this is the importance of doing marketing from your personal profile, is that you can use messages there as well.
As through your business page, important thing to remember is that if you're going to be running messages through your personal profile and through your business page.
Please remember to check them, barring that email great way to reach but never use the exception to prove the rule, the rule is most people like messenger.
See if you can find ways to incorporate it into your business all right "Facebook Groups"
Facebook groups have recently had a bit of a surge in popularity, now they came out they're nothing new to the world of marketing.
Into the world of facebook, however all sorts of new marketing strategies, have come out in around the last year and people are really promoting them more and more and more.
Now here's the deal with facebook groups, there's three ways that you can use these in your business, one good way one great way and one absolutely terrible way, that a lot of people are talking about that I want to destroy right now.
So let's go through them in order, number one of which is to start your own free facebook group, this is where you build a group around an interest or around the business or the topic or whatever it is.
That you serve and you provide valuable information, you engage with your audience you have conversations, you allow people to join and essentially you just foster a community very powerful tool.
The second way is a paid facebook group, now a bit of a confusing thing with paid facebook groups, is you're not actually paying facebook you're rather, you're using them as a paid component of your membership of your service, of your course, whatever it is.
So people will pay you, they'll join your program join, your service, join your course and then you'll put them into a private or a closed facebook group in order to provide that extra level of service.
I love these for this reason, I think they're a great spot for paid usage, free facebook groups there's a strategy unto themselves quite complicated, quite time, time intensive in regards to moderating everything, creating content making sure everything's followed great.
If you're just getting started a little, a little time intensive though now. The last one to talk about, which is my least favorite by far is other people's facebook groups.
For years there's been this strategy in the marketing world, where you just need to join all of these different facebook groups.
Drop what people call value bombs or like huge valuable posts, little calls to action, say hey do you want help with this send me a message or going in to other people's groups.
Finding people that are asking questions, answering them nicely, which is good cool for that, but then being like, hey send me a direct message or happy to help with this.
This is spammy, this is sleazy, this is salesy and what you're really doing, is you're for lack of a better term you're kind of stealing all of the effort that someone's put into to creating a free facebook group and then taking all of their prospects from them.
This is terrible people, know what's happening, when someone comes into a group and they're like hey I'm just here to provide value and let me know if you have questions and send me a private message.
You'll get banned, you'll get blocked, people will know not a good strategy.
So all right, we'll leave that one, there we're going to talk about my absolute favorite, one now "facebook ads".
Now here's the reason I made facebook ads as number seven and not number one I've started and tried to list these things through in order of what I believe is the most the easiest to the most challenging.
So we're getting progressively more advanced with our strategies, facebook personal page it's amazing you've got access to a page.
You can create content, you can talk about what you do so, on business page kind of the same thing facebook ads on the other hand are still one of the most cost effective forms of marketing and advertising available to you.
But they're not a magic bullet, I've been running facebook ads basically since they came out generated millions and millions of dollars.
I do this full-time, this is my job as a marketer so every time I see someone that's just getting started and they run an ad and it fails and then they swear off facebook ads completely a little part of me dies.
Because the reality is, it's really hard but it should be that's why we have competition, that's why it's important to understand and to study marketing and advertising and copywriting and messaging and positioning and segmenting and all of the things that go into actually running effective facebook ads.
So I love facebook ads, I think they're incredibly valuable incredibly important, but they're not the be-all and end-all so here's about the cut-off that I use for most businesses.
If your business is generating less than 10 to 20 grand a month you probably don't need facebook ads, what you need is better offer refinement, better messaging.
You need more content, you've got to dial in your ideal customer avatar and so on if you want to scale from 20k a month to 100k a month and obviously from undercay and up facebook ads are a great tool.
But you're going to need to put in some time, some money and some energy into learning the platform, developing the creative studying of all or even hiring an agency.
Ii'm not against hiring agencies, but I still think you should know what you're doing before you hire the agency, otherwise the agency could just be running like campaigns, be like look at all, the likes we got and look at all the views our videos got.
Which by the way don't equal sales, don't equal customers and it's a great way to go broke very quickly, so facebook ads use them, but use them right all.
Right let's get into some of the weird stuff "Facebook Watch", that you're going to want to pay attention to in 2021.
Although I'm not necessarily saying you want to go out there and start incorporating all of this into your business, because a few of these you may not even have access to.
But I want to put them on your radar, because whether they come out stronger in 2021 or 2022 or so on important to be aware of first of which facebook watch.
Facebook watch for those of you who haven't heard of it, kind of hard to explain basically, facebook watch is like facebook's version of netflix mixed with youtube mixed with igtv mixed with facebook features.
It's kind of a weird thing essentially they've got their own programs, dedicated facebook watch programs, they also have other influencers that they've given shows to a lot of people most people don't have access to the facebook watch platform.
As a marketer, as a business, now if you're a multi-million dollar business, a fortune 500 something like that, you can probably apply and get a facebook watch show.
But if you don't have that, yet hard to say if they're going to be rolling this out more in the future still something to be aware of.
Because again it's going to be another media channel and it shows facebook's plans and basically progression to take over media in general.
They've got text, they've got audio, they've got video, they've got shows, they're rolling out, they've got facebook marketplace, they've got all of these different features, in fact facebook has over 40 different products and services which is a bit mind-blowing.
Okay facebook portal not tons to say about this, maybe you've heard of this before what it is, is it's like a small little ipad looking thing or you can hook it up to your tv.
It's a way to do live video streaming and live video chats connect with friends connect with family so on. From a marketing perspective it allows you to go live, so you can go live right from your facebook portal.
Also who knows what the future of the portal has in store, it's connecting with alexa right now.
We're good so there's things to be aware of there in that, maybe we could have voice activated commands and prompts and so on.
But again we're still a bit away "Facebook Oculus" is facebook's move into virtual reality.
So facebook portal had a lot of augmented reality stuff, some overlays, some cool features and stickers. Facebook oculus is the virtual reality headset that facebook bought.
Oculus oh I can't remember when years ago and it was over 2 billion, I don't want to say the exact number, because I can't totally remember but long time ago.
So they're obviously investing in artificial reality, augmented reality part of me and virtual reality and all of these things.
So things to be aware of a couple more points and we'll dive into some questions.
Next one "Instagram from Facebook"
No secret here, facebook owns instagram this is obviously not a facebook dedicated platform, but a lot of the strategies that you can use and implement on facebook you're going to be able to port directly over to instagram to get similar results.
Depending on the demographic that you're serving the rough line in the sand, that I draw is if you're trying to reach a market of over 35, we go to facebook under 35, we go to instagram that's aging up rapidly.
In fact I believe the fastest growing age demographic on instagram possibly facebook right now, as well is 65 plus. So it doesn't really matter.
If you want to reach your people they're on facebook, they're also probably on instagram and you can reach them there and of course whatsapp also owned by facebook now.
There's a few differences between whatsapp and messenger again, be aware of your market, whatsapp is less popular in north america, in canada and in the US, as it is overseas.
So if you've got a business in europe or australia or the UK or other where pay a little more attention to whatsapp, the big differences between facebook messenger and facebook whatsapp is that.
Messenger is tied largely to your facebook profile and account and whatsapp is tied largely to your phone into your contacts and things like that.
All right so those are all of the those are all the features that facebook has that, I want you to pay attention to in 2021 that I think will be incredibly valuable to start implementing.
Don't use them all, you don't need to use them all, you need to be selective, you need to pick one or two or maybe three probably.
Your facebook personal profile obviously your facebook business page, if you can do facebook lives, you're going to want to incorporate these.
They're a great way to get reach and in fact I believe the statistic is that a live video on facebook right now is getting four times more reach and more exposure than a pre-recorded video.
So if you can go live you're gonna potentially get four times more reach and of course facebook ads, if you're at that stage of your business around 20K a month.
By this, I'm closing today's topic of facebook marketing strategies, I hope you like the post & if do, please share. I'll be back more topic in future.
